Sébastien Ogier is set to make a shock return to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup this weekend; the World Rally Championship superstar joins the Team Project 1 operation for this weekend’s encounter at the iconic Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg.
The thirty year old has previous Supercup experience, having contested the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix weekend, again for Team Project 1. Thus far in 2014, he has also contested a one-off round of the ADAC GT Masters in May, and finished eighth piloting an Audi R8 LMS Ultra alongside former Formula One driver Markus Winkelhock for Prosperia C ABT Racing.
The Frenchman is excited to be returning to the Supercup and is looking forward to getting behind the wheel once again of the stunning Type 991 911 GT3 Cup race car.
“The Porsche Supercup is a fascinating racing series and I really enjoyed my first outing last year in Monaco,” he commented, adding “I imagine that the undulations of the circuit will be awesome in a competitive race in the most powerful one-make cup car in the world”.
Ogier finished thirteenth on his debut in Monaco and could well achieve an even better result in Spielberg. Not only does he have more experience than on his first ever track attack, this event marks the return to this iconic venue for the Supercup for the first time in over a decade. However, with a field full of hungry young contenders, a decent result will not be easy to achieve.
