Pete Bennett will return to Michelin Clio Cup Series action at Brands Hatch next weekend, having been forced to sit out the last meeting at Donington Park due to accident damage.
In race two at Oulton Park in May, Bennett was caught up in a startline incident, with heavy contact with the pit wall leaving his third generation Clio racer a write-off.
With only a two-week turnaround to Donington, the 47 year old was forced to skip that meeting, but is now ready to return in his rebuilt Finesse Motorsport Clio.
“Neil and Jake Giddings have done a fantastic job in re-shelling the Clio ready for Brands,” said Bennett. “We took the car to Snetterton last week for a shakedown and it performed faultlessly. It actually felt different to my last Clio with the new shell, but in a positive way which was a bonus.
“We also tried a new set-up which worked well, but we’re not sure if we’ll run it at Brands. We’re going there with good expectation but under no illusion with the quality I’m racing against. I can’t wait to get back in the car and with a bit of luck we can get back on the podium.”
Brands Hatch holds good memories for Bennett, with it being the scene of his car-racing debut in the Clio Series last September, when he stunned the paddock with a podium finish in his first-ever race.
