LD Motorsports Driver Derek Tohill is setting his sights high for this weekends penultimate round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship that takes place in Turkey.
However, the LD Motorsports driver has needed some hard work and repairs performed on his Citroen DS3 Supercar after the last round in Italy where the car suffered heavy damage after contact in the heat stages.
“I am delighted to be able to compete in Turkey this weekend, particularly in light of the accident at Franciacorta, which instantly ended our weekend. I was turned around into a wall and the team has had limited time and resources to repair the car. Accidents of this nature hurt us badly as we don’t have the budget or resources enjoyed by the manufacturer backed teams,” said Tohill,
“We had some electrical gremlins on Saturday which were resolved for Sunday. Things were looking up, but then the weekend was ended with an accident while leading our heat. We were happy to be running at a similar pace to my LD Motorsports team mate and 2013 vice Supercar champion, Davy Jeanney.
“Italy wasn’t a track that suited us well with long straights and big jumps, hopefully the circuit at Istanbul will be more like a traditional rallycross track. We have not seen the track yet, Saturday morning practice will answer a lot of questions. As ever, we need to hit the ground running in practice.”
Meanwhile Tohill, who is in his first season of Supercars in World RX after winning the EuroRX Touring Car Title last year, has set his aim high for the brand new World RX of Turkey event this weekend that uses part of the popular Grand Prix circuit for its World RX debut.
“For us it’s about survival now, getting to the end and hopefully scoring a few points. We want to qualify for the finals, that’s the goal this weekend. Everyone has dug very deep and worked hard to keep going, it would be great to get a strong result to repay that effort. We are looking forward to working towards achieving a good performance at this new and intriguing venue. I really have to say a big thanks to my partners, family and friends for their continued loyal support.”
Coming into the Turkish round, Derek Tohill currently lies 15th in the Drivers World Championship with his best finish of the year of 8th place back in the season opener in Portugal.
