2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Carlos Sainz Jr will participate for the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team in the post-race test in Abu Dhabi.
The Spaniard will join Daniel Ricciardo for the test that runs on November 25th and 26th at the Yas Marina Circuit, with Sainz running on day one and Ricciardo day two.
Sainz has been heavily linked to the second Scuderia Toro Rosso drive for the 2015, with Daniil Kvyat moving on to Red Bull in place of Sebastian Vettel, who is leaving the team after this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
As well as Sainz, fellow Red Bull-backed drivers Pierre Gasly and Alex Lynn, plus current Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne remain in contention for the drive, with the team yet to announce who will partner seventeen-year-old Max Verstappen next year.
Twenty-year-old Sainz became the youngest Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion this year, having taken a record breaking seven race victories, and also took seven pole positions while driving for DAMS. Despite not scoring in either of the final two rounds at Jerez, he finished 35 points clear of Gasly in the standings.
It will be Sainz’s second time in an F1 car, with the Spaniard taking part in the 2013 Young Driver Test at Silverstone, completing 35 laps in a Red Bull RB9.
Ricciardo will take over the car from Sainz on day two, with the Australian having taken three race wins and five other podium finishes so far in 2014, with his third place in the championship confirmed.
