Hamilton continues Abu Dhabi domination in FP2

1 Mins read

Lewis Hamilton continued to set the pace in Abu Dhabi as the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS duo extended their reign of domination in second practice.

As teams turned their attention to super soft qualifying and long run simulations, Hamilton and championship rival Nico Rosberg continued to head the field, with only 0.073s separating the title protagonists.

The two Mercedes drivers were once again well clear of the rest of the field, although by not as much as was seen in first practice earlier in the day, with Kevin Magnussen finishing third for McLaren 0.762s adrift.

Sebastian Vettel was fourth fastest for Infiniti Red Bull Racing, with the German the fourth and final driver to set a lap time beneath 1:43s, while Valtteri Bottas in fifth was the fifth and final driver to get within one second of the pace of the Mercedes team, the Williams Martini Racing driver just ahead of the second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo.

Kimi Raikkonen was seventh for Ferrari, but his team-mate Fernando Alonso’s session was over very early, with his Ferrari shutting itself off between turns nineteen and twenty after just two laps, with the Spaniard finishing the session without setting a lap time.

Jenson Button was eighth in the second McLaren after starting his session late after the hydraulic issue that cost him most of first practice took a while to be sorted out. He finished just ahead of Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat and the second Williams of Felipe Massa.
