Jerez testing to get 2015 F1 season underway

1 Mins read

The wait is nearly over for Formula 1 fans around the world as Sunday marks the opening day of the first pre-season test ahead of the 2015 season.

The four-day test at the Spanish circuit of Jerez will see the introduction of many of the 2015 machines, with all nine confirmed teams being present.

The Sahara Force India team are the only ones who have confirmed they will not be bringing their 2015 car to the test, with the team insisting it was practical for the second test in Barcelona later in February before they roll out their 2015 car.

Reigning Constructors’ Champions Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS will showcase their new car in Jerez, with Nico Rosberg having the first opportunity to drive the W06 Hybrid on Sunday, before handing over to 2014 Drivers’ World Champion Lewis Hamilton on Monday.

The test will also give fans the first opportunities to see some drivers testing for their new teams for the first time. Sebastian Vettel will have his first taste of the Ferrari SF15-T, while Fernando Alonso will have his first run back with McLaren-Honda, with the Woking team hoping the technical issues that affected them in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2014 will have been solved.

The Marussia/Manor and Caterham F1 teams will be absent as their futures in the sport remain unsolved. Time is running out for the two-backmarker teams, with the start of the season approaching fast.
