Mercedes W06 Hybrid breaks cover at icy Silverstone

1 Mins read

The follow-up to the dominant 2014 Mercedes AMG PETRONAS W05 Hybrid has made its track debut after running a few laps of the Silverstone Circuit during a designated filming day.

The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS W06 Hybrid was first in the hands of last years Formula 1 championship runner up Nico Rosberg, before being handed over to World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

After leaving the pit lane for the first time at 1:13pm, the car, powered by their PU106B hybrid power unit, completed eighteen laps (47.2 kilometres) in total before the session was curtailed by a snow blizzard.

The team will now head off to Jerez for the first proper test on Sunday as pre-season testing gets underway. Rosberg is scheduled to get the first day of the test in the car on Sunday before handing over to Hamilton on Monday. Rosberg again will be testing on Tuesday before Hamilton concludes the four-day test on Wednesday.

Last year, Mercedes took sixteen out of a possible nineteen race victories, with Hamilton beating Rosberg to the championship by 67 points. The team took a record breaking eleven 1-2 finishes on their way to scoring 701 points in the constructors’ championship, 296 points more than second placed Red Bull Racing.
