Sordo out of Rally Sweden after sustaining training injury

1 Mins read

Dani Sordo is set to miss the next round of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship season at Rally Sweden after he was injured in a fall from his mountain bike during a training session.

The Spaniard has been diagnosed with two broken ribs and as a result will miss the next round of the championship, he is expected to be fit for Rally Mexico in a months time.

With Sordo out of the running Hayden Paddon and John Kennard step in to take over duties on the #8 Hyundai i20 WRC for Rally Sweden alongside regular driver Thierry Neuville and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul. Kevin Abbring and co-driver Sebastian Marshall will also be taking part in the rally as they make their debut for the Hyundai Mobis Rally Team, occupying the vacant seats of Paddon and Kennard.

“First of all we would like to send our best wishes to Dani for a quick recovery and we look forward to seeing him back in the car.” said Team Principal Michel Nandan.

“We have decided that it’s best for Dani to miss Sweden in order for him to recover and to be 100% fit for Rally Mexico next month. Hayden will take over in the #8 car in Sweden driving for the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team alongside Thierry.

“We have also opted to run Kevin in the #20 car so we can continue with our three car approach to this second rally of the 2015 season.”
