In 2015, Rallycross will see a new domestic series begin in Australia, where the EXTREME Rallycross Championship has been formed for what will be its first season in a country that is proud of its motorsport.
The AustralianRX series will see all competitors take part in equal machinery as they will use the successful Lites cars that have seen action supporting WorldRX as well as in Red Bull Global Rallycross and as a part of the RallyX Scandinavia series. WRC Legend Alistair McRae has already been signed to test the EXTREME RX Lites car down under.
As part of the build up to the series, Kennards Hire have been signed as a series partner. Kennards will provide a wide variety of equipment to every event, including fencing, barriers, crowd control, but the most important thing they bring to the series is their experience and ‘can do’ attitude to the work at hand.
“We are always looking for new and innovative opportunities in which to engage the members of our target market,” said Matt Hankin, Head of Marketing at Kennards Hire.
“When the team from EXTREME Rallycross approached us we knew it was a chance to get involved at the ground level with a championship that has huge potential. One of the unique but challenging things about the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championships is the track build.
“Just have a think about the first round for a moment. They’re literally building a racetrack in the car park at the Mudgeeraba Sporting Complex, beside the M1 Motorway on the Gold Coast!”
However Hankin is also aware of what makes Rallycross so exciting to the fans and also an exciting form of motorsport.
“As you can imagine, building a racetrack in a car park is a massive project, but with Rallycross it’s all about taking the sport to the fans and we have the know-how and resources to get the job done,” Matt added.
The 2015 series will see competitors taking part in seven rounds, all driving EXTREME RX Lites car which are identical 310bhp, mid-engined, four-wheel drive cars designed by Olsbergs MSE in co-operation with Avitas Motorsport and produced in Turkey. Featuring strictly controlled spec vehicles, the series is designed to provide an affordable platform to showcase the talent of young, emerging and experienced Rallycross drivers.
