Preston Calvert finished the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge‘s Roar by the Shore in 4th position in the GT Cup in the #77 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Phoenix American Motorsports, thanks to skilful driving and avoiding various incidents on the Los Angeles street circuit.
Calvert finished in the top 5 for the third race in a row, and is now 4th in the GT Cup championship.
The new-style standing start didn’t happen, as a GT car was stranded on the grid, and so the GT Cup field began the race with a rolling start after a yellow flag. The race was filled with caution periods with only seven laps of green flag racing, but Calvert managed to avoid incidents and finish 4th out of 8 competitors in the class.
“The GT Cup race within the Long Beach Grand Prix was again a challenging street fight,” said Calvert. “The first order of business was to avoid damage to the car with all the congestion and crashes among other competitors. I was again fortunate to be able to navigate through this obstacle course and run a clean race. This allowed me to finish fourth, as some other GT Cup competitors were unfortunate to become involved in contact and other mishaps.”
Calvert and Phoenix American Motorsports will cross the country for the next event of the season, which will be held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL this weekend. He will resume his normal four-race schedule, with the top GT Cup races and two GTS races, during which he will pilot the #35 Ford Mustang Boss 302.
