Three-time Red Bull Global Rallycross champion Tanner Foust made his return to the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Hockenheim last weekend.
In what is a programme of four 2015 WorldRX events for Foust, he drove a third Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo Supercar over the three days of action as well as taking part in the inaugural round of the Audi TT Cup. The American driver had a better time in the TT Cup where he took a pair of podium finishes.
“I was lucky to be asked in as a guest driver for the first running of this new road racing series that is going to produce some of the future stars of motorsport,” said Foust, who this season is also competing in rallycross, drifting, and short-course off-road racing.
“It’s going to be fun to look back in a couple of years when these young drivers become household names and say that I raced with them back when they were just starting out.”
His WorldRX performances were more challenging however. Foust began the Heats in quiet fashion before finishing inside the top four positions for heats two and three. Eighth place in heat four guaranteed him a place in Semi-Final One, where he finished three tenths of a second behind team-mate Topi Heikkinen, bring an end to Foust’s return.
Foust will make his return to WorldRX at the fourth round of the season held at Lydden Hill in Kent, which is a happy hunting ground for the American pilot having taken wins there in 2012 and 2013. After this appearance, he will then begin his full season assault on the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship for Volkswagen Andretti Autosport Rallycross in the Volkswagen Beetle GRC Supercar.
