Jenson Button: “Weekends like this are tough for the whole team”

1 Mins read

Jenson Button was forced to sit out qualifying for the second time in four races after stopping on track with an ERS issue on his McLaren-Honda during the final free practice session on Saturday that could not be fixed in time.

Button felt the team had made progress with the set-up of his car overnight, and had been looking forward to seeing where those updates would have placed him on the grid, but now the former World Champion and previous Canadian Grand Prix winner will have to start the race from the pit lane.

“This morning we did a lot of set-up work in the car, and it felt much better than yesterday, so I was looking forward to qualifying,” reflected Button. “It was disappointing to miss it, therefore, but it happens – and we’ll make the best of it tomorrow.

“The guys have worked so hard this weekend; they did a great job of getting Fernando’s car back together for qualifying and they’ll do the same fantastic job as they always do with my car, but weekends like this one are tough for the whole team.

“It’ll be a long race, but I’m already looking forward to it.”
