2014 DTM Series Champion Marco Wittmann had his first opportunity to test a Formula 1 car on Wednesday, with the young German driver completing a day-high 158 laps of the Red Bull Ring for the Scuderia Toro Rosso team.
Wittmann was handed the opportunity to test a F1 car as part of his reward for winning the DTM title with BMW last year, with the German admitting the whole experience was ‘amazing’ for him after he posted the fourth fastest time, and getting within one second of the pace set by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.
“This has been an amazing experience for me,” insisted Wittmann. “I was surprised at the power of the car; if I compare it to DTM, it’s got quite a lot more power!
“I enjoyed the whole day, which was trouble free, so I was able to do a lot of laps. I’m happy with my day; I hope the team is too.
“My neck feels a bit tired, it’s a bit painful, but if you get a chance in a Formula 1 test you just go for it – you don’t complain about any pain or issues or anything else.
“I would like to thank Red Bull, Scuderia Toro Rosso and BMW for giving me this great opportunity.”
