Pastor Maldonado scored his first points of a relatively troubled season with a strong drive to seventh position during the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday.
The Lotus F1 Team driver secured his best finish since racing for Williams back in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and admitted his relief to finally secure a positive result this season after a run of disappointing retirements and car issues, and hoped this result is the catalyst for more.
“Finally, here we are in the points,” said a relieved Maldonado. “I think now we’ve started scoring there’s potential for this to be a great season for us as we have really good pace.
“It was a good race. We had to pit quite early to gain the place against Nico Hulkenberg, which made the later part of the race quite tricky, and I couldn’t defend later on as a consequence.
“I’m pleased for the team that we got both cars in the points; let’s continue like this.”
