Max Verstappen believes the Hungaroring is a bit of a ‘Mickey Mouse’ circuit, but insists he is looking forward to tackling the race this weekend at the circuit ahead of the mid-season break.
The Dutch teenager raced at the circuit during this sole European Formula 3 Championship campaign in 2014, with the circuit providing one of the rare moments when he failed to secure a podium finish in any of the three races.
However, the Scuderia Toro Rosso driver reckons his STR10 should suit the Hungaroring this weekend, and insists that despite the reputation of the circuit being hard to pass on, he will attempt to make every opportunity count during the race should he get a chance.
“I’ve raced at the Hungaroring in Formula 3 and it’s a bit of a Mickey Mouse track,” said Verstappen. “I’m looking forward to racing there with an F1 car; I think the circuit will suit our car and I’m optimistic we can fight for a good result. This could be one of our best races of the season.
“Qualifying will be a key part of the weekend as in Hungary it is very difficult to overtake during the race, but, as always, I will do my best and try to overtake every time the opportunity arises.
“I have seen the city a bit and it’s one of the nicest we visit. After this race, we have our summer break, but I’m not really looking forward to it: I’d prefer to have another three races in the three weeks off!”
