Sebastian Vettel has welcomed the news that Kimi Raikkonen will remain his team-mate at Scuderia Ferrari in 2016, but insisted he was not directly involved in the decision to retain the Finnish driver.
Ferrari announced Raikkonen would remain in the team for a third season on Wednesday, and Vettel insists he has a good relationship with the Finn, and hopes the team can work towards returning to the front of the grid with the driver line-up remaining stable.
“I think Kimi is a very good driver, I’ve a good relationship with him and it’s good for the team, it keeps the stability in it,” insisted Vettel.
“We can work together for Ferrari, trying to do our best. For sure everybody want to race for himself, but I don’t think neither he or myself have the egos to stand in the way of the team.
“I was not directly involved in the decision concerning his contract, but it is no secret that we get along well together. Both he and I are not wasting energies on petty things, so that we can focus on getting back to the top.”
