Michael Ammermüller and Matteo Cairoli have secured a pole position each for this weekend’s Porsche Mobil1 Supercup races at Monza, as championship leader Philip Eng struggled into the top six.
Lechner Racing Middle East driver Ammermüller tops the race one classification from Team Project 1 driver Cairoli, who then leads Sven Müller (Lechner Racing Middle East) on the grid for race two. For that second encounter Ammermüller will line-up third, a position held by his teammate on the race one grid order.
Maybe it is an indication of his overwhelming pace and talent, the fact is that a fourth for race one and a place lower for race two is considered a disappointment for Philipp Eng. With only two races in Austin after Monza, if the series leader starts to slip now, the result could be catastrophic for his title ambitions.
Other notable performances come from Ben Barker, MOMO-Megatron Team PARTRAX, ninth in race one not so notable but a sixth in race two certainly is.
Ditto Martinet by Alméras’ Côme Ledogar, fifth for race one. Best not mention the thirteenth for race two.
Two races at Monza and Italy looks set to be the stage for a Supercup title upset.
