Fernando Alonso: “I really enjoy going to Austin”

1 Mins read

Fernando Alonso aims to put the disappointment of Sochi Autodrom‘s eleventh place behind him ahead of this weekend’s United States Grand Prix in Austin.

The Spaniard was stripped of  his single point after the stewards hit him post-race with a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits after being warned previously about cutting corners. This saw him fall behind the Scuderia Toro Rosso of Max Verstappen.

“It was obviously disappointing to lose out on 10th place in Sochi,” said Alonso. “Considering it was a circuit that we knew wouldn’t suit our package, we can’t be too disappointed with the result and the positive reliability of the car all weekend.”

The McLaren-Honda driver is excited to be returning to Circuit of The Americas this weekend with its hybrid of corners from circuits all around the world, and is looking to achieve more progress at the circuit.

“Now we move to Austin which is a very different proposition,” added the Spaniard.  “We know it’ll be difficult for us in some of the areas we’ve already seen this year, but we will definitely be working flat out to achieve more progress and another positive result.”

“I really enjoy going to Austin, a fantastic atmosphere and a city that absolutely loves its racing. I had some great battles with Jenson there last year and I’m hoping for more of the same against our competitors this weekend.”
