Nico Rosberg: “It’s great to be starting P1 again”

1 Mins read

Nico Rosberg could not hide his delight at securing pole position for the final Grand Prix of the 2015 season, admitting it was a ‘pretty cool feeling’ to take his sixth consecutive top spot of the year in Abu Dhabi.

The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS driver denied team-mate Lewis Hamilton the pole with a near-perfect lap, and admits he is happy to have been faster than the three-times World Champion over the past handful of Grand Prix weekends, and will be looking for his third consecutive victory after triumphs in Mexico and Brazil.

“Normally I’m not too over-excited when I’m on pole, as you don’t get any points on a Saturday,” said Rosberg. “But this time was a pretty cool feeling.

“My last lap felt absolutely fantastic and it’s great to be starting P1 again. I’m also quite happy that I’ve been quicker than Lewis for the last couple of race weekends.

“At the beginning of the season he was always this tiny little bit ahead, so it’s good to turn that around. This is the best position to start the race tomorrow.

“I want to win this one to finish the year on a high and give the boys in the garage a really good reason to have a great season-ending party tomorrow night.”
