Pace Notes: 2016 Rallye Monte-Carlo

1 Mins read

Upcoming rally driver Gus Greensmith took part in a three-day recce for the Rallye Monte-Carlo this week as he looks to gain experience with co-driver Alex Gelsomino, this is what he said about the stages:

How are the conditions for the rally? Any surprises?

Greensmith: “It’s wet/dry tarmac in most places. However the stages I recced on Tuesday were covered in compact snow except the 51km’s of Lardier et Valenca – Faye. The areas covered in snow melt quickly but when it begins to snow, it’s sticks quickly too. Conditions are ever changing.”

Although you wont be taking part this year, what stage of the rally stands out as the most exciting for you?

Greensmith: “Stage 1 Entrevaux – Rouaine. It was so fast but if you’re slightly off line, you’ll clip a bank & have a huge accident. The stage sill also be run at night… It’s terrifying but rewarding.”

How was the recce for you and how have you benifitted from it?

Greensmith: “Day 2 was very difficult as my recce car wasn’t too keen on climbing up steep snowy roads. Apart from that, I’ve learnt lots which will benefit me immensely when I hopefully return to do the rally in 2017.”
