Star studded launch party set to get WRC season under way

1 Mins read

The 2016 FIA World Rally Championship officially gets under way this week and celebrities will join WRC competitors in a star studded launch in Monte-Carlo tomorrow (Thursday).

Sébastien Ogier, Thierry Neuville, Eric Camilli and Kris Meeke will all be on hand at the event to give the guests a high speed taste of the action as they take them on a ride in their rally cars.

Celebrities due to attend include musician Danny Jones from McFly and McBusted, French rugby player Damien Chouly, Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, ballroom dancer Katrina Patchett, former French international football player Jean-Pierre Papin, Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann, former German international football player turned Sport 1 presenter Thomas Helmer, former footballer Jari Litmanen, French race walker and world record holder Yohann Diniz and German TV presenter Kai Pflaume.

“Monte-Carlo provides the perfect ambience in which to celebrate the anticipation everyone feels at the start of a new FIA World Rally Championship season,” said WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla.

“We want to build on the success of last year’s inaugural launch and host a genuinely special occasion to open the 2016 campaign, an afternoon that not only excites the WRC community but also showcases the championship to the wider public.

“No sooner are the celebrations complete than everyone’s thoughts will turn to what the WRC is all about – the world’s best rally drivers fighting for tenths of a second, in a night stage, on potentially treacherous Alpine mountain roads.

“These are the challenges that thrill fans and make WRC so unpredictable and spectacular,” added Ciesla.
