Sharp Set for Title Assault in Carrera Cup GB

1 Mins read

Tom Sharp will return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2016, following a debut campaign that culminated in a maiden category victory and the Rookie title.

Despite some poor luck early in the season, Sharp bounced back in the second-half of 2015 and scored a debut podium at Snetterton. More champagne was tasted at Silverstone before his year ended in spectacular fashion on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

On Sunday morning another podium came after a fighting drive stalking champion Dan Cammish to the flag. That afternoon Sharp went one better and claimed a maiden series win on one of his favourite circuits.

2015 went perfectly to plan. It was always going to be a learning year,” Sharp says before looking ahead, adding “We now go into 2016 with a completely different mind-set. Myself and the IDL Racing team are really excited for the year ahead.”

So they should be. The team have a brand-new Porsche Type 991 GT3 Cup car, a year of data and the chance to challenge for the title. With the confirmed return of Dan Cammish this week, that task looks a lot harder. Sharp was one of the few men who proved he could beat Dan last year. He can do it on a more regular basis, have no doubt. Regularly enough to be champion? It will be very interesting to find out. Don’t bet against it straight-away.
