Kimi Raikkonen tops final day in Spain

Kimi Raikkonen set the best time of day four of pre-season testing on Thursday by 0.816s from Daniil Kvyat as teams continued to test their 2016 machines for the final day at the Circuit de Catalunya.

It was the third day out of four that a Ferrari topped the timesheet with the Finn setting a time of 1m23.477s just before lunch on a set of the Ultrasoft tyres. After a late run on the Supersofts, Alfonso Celis Jr managed to finish third for Sahara Force India after setting a time of 1m24.840s.

After a lack of running from Jolyon Palmer earlier in the week for Renault, team-mate Kevin Magnussen made up for it when he finished the day on the highest individual laps with a total of 153.

The Dane caused a red flag in the final quarter of an hour when he stopped out on track, still managing to finish the session fourth fastest.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso of Max Verstappen added a total of 106 laps to the 161 team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr clocked on Wednesday. Verstappen finished the day with a time of 1m25.393s leading him to finish the day in fifth, finishing another solid day for the Italian-based outfit.

In their 2015-spec car, Felipe Nasr completed 121 laps for Sauber, achieving the sixth fastest time on a set of soft tyres, improving on his time from Wednesday by 0.339s.

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS, running a brand new nose on the final day, split the driving duties for the second day in a row after Lewis Hamilton took the wheel of their W07 in the morning, clocking 99 laps before Nico Rosberg took over in the afternoon to achieve a fastest lap time of 1m26.187s, over one tenth ahead of Hamilton in seventh and completing 86 laps.

Felipe Massa took the wheel of the FW38 for Williams Martini Racing and completed a best lap time of 1m26.483s to finish the session in ninth ahead of Esteban Gutierrez.

The Mexican completed the first race simulation for Haas and finished tenth quickest with a time of 1m27.802s, with Gutierrez also logging the highest amount of laps for the American-outfit seen so far with a total of 89.

Rio Haryanto was responsible for the first red flag of day four after crashing at Turn 5 in the afternoon and did not return to the track for Manor Racing. Before the incident, the Indonesian logged a total of 51 laps and completed the top ten with a time of 1m28.266s.

After an early finish for Jenson Button on Wednesday when a hydraulic leak caused a minor fire, the bad luck continued into the final day for McLaren-Honda with the MP4-31 suffering a coolant leak early during the morning session.  The team were unable to get the car back out on track causing Fernando Alonso to finish the day unable to have set a time and with only three laps to his name.
