Ruth Buscombe becomes an Ambassador for Dare To Be Different

1 Mins read

Recently recruited Chief Race Strategist at Haas F1Ruth Buscombe has joined the long list of Ambassadors for Dare To Be Different (DTBD), becoming the latest role model to help find and develop female talent in motorsport.

For the past three Formula 1 seasons, Ruth has spent her time as Race Strategist at Scuderia Ferrari but switched to the new Haas team during the off-season, and she has now joined the growing number of high profile women supporting DTBD.

Standing alongside founder Susie Wolff and fellow ambassadors Claire Williams, Rachel Brookes and Alice Powell, Buscombe will help showcase the wide variety of opportunities available to women in motorsport.

“It’s a privilege to be an Ambassador for Dare to be Different,” said Ruth. “It’s so important that we fight the archaic stereotype that women and motor sport “don’t go together” to prevent misinformation and dogma prescribing a subset of career choices for girls.

“I’m proud to be a part of an initiative that will showcase the fantastic opportunities available within Motorsport; where what counts is what you can do- not what gender you are.”

DTBD creator Wolff has welcomed Buscombe on board to the project, believing she has the experience in motorsport to be an inspiration for any female looking to become involved in motorsport in an engineering or strategic role.

“I am very proud to have Ruth on board with us at Dare to be Different,” said Susie. “She’s absolutely at the top level of her profession, and an inspiration to women who want to forge a career in engineering and race strategy.

“We really want to shine the spotlight on women like Ruth who have made such an incredible success in motor sport, and as time goes on we will be bringing more and more amazing women to the forefront.”
