2014 FIA European Rallycross Champion Robin Larsson has confirmed to the FIA WorldRX website that he will contest the full FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2016.
Larsson ended his first WorldRX campaign in 2015 by winning the Argentine Finale against strong opposition from EKS star Mattias Ekstrom and he scored a podium finish at the WorldRX of Norway. The young Swedish driver is looking to move forward in what is becoming a very competitive field in WorldRX for the 2016 season and the team have been hard at work on updating the Audi Supercar:
“We’ve updated the car with some parts and some new developments that we think will help us on the track, I’ve also learned a lot about the circuits: some were new to me last year so I’m coming back to all the tracks I’ve driven at least once before which will definitely help,” explained Larsson.
Larsson is also looking to put the lessons he has learnt to good use this year:
“Consistency is very important: of course everybody wants to win every race, but I’ve learned that good tactics is critical to success. Last year I wanted to win as much as I could in the beginning but during the second half of the season I started to drive a lot more smartly and it really worked. I’m not here to make any friends – only good results for my future in the sport. All the teams are stepping up this year – the sport is getting bigger so it’s going to be a really tough year. We’re a small team compared to some of the bigger guys. So, this year I really need to be on my toes for every single race. I’m ready to kick of the season in Portugal with lots of motivation.”
Larsson will be running as a privately entered driver for the second year in a row, driving for Larsson Jernberg Racing which is run jointly by his father Lars and engineering chief Michael Jernberg. Lars Larsson was a double EuroRX champion for 2006 and 2007.
