World Rallycross teams test track changes at Hockenheim

1 Mins read

The new FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy is almost upon us and his means testing is under way for some teams in preperation for the year ahead.

Yesterday at Hockenheim saw Olsbergs MSE running Kevin Eriksson and Niclas Gronholm in their Ford Fiesta Supercars, joined by the EKSRX pairing of Mattias Ekstrom and Topi Heikkinen in their Audi S1’s, this also marked Heikkinen’s first test of the car on a full rallycross circuit.

Rene Munnich also joined the running which saw the drivers evaluate developments to the German track which joined the championship last season; ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport‘s new Seat Ibiza’s are still being worked on which meant that Munnich used a 2015 specification Audi S3 Supercar, completing the most laps of all of the Supercar participants.

“I think for the quality of the track, there has been a big step forward (at Hockenheim). It’s now completely different to last year. We did a lot of running with the Audi, and we will be testing the new car soon before Portugal,” Munnich told fiaworldrallycross.com.

Joining the Supercar teams were a number of RX Lites drivers including OMSE’s Cyril Raymond and Tejas Hirani, JC Race Teknik‘s Sondre Evjen and Joachim Hvaal, Set Promotion‘s Simon Syversen and TokSport‘s Ayhancan Guven.

The first round of the FIA World Rallycross season gets under way in two weeks time as it heads to Portugal before arriving in Germany for the second round at Hockenheim, once again supporting the DTM race weekend.
