2016 FIA Formula 1 World Championship standings after round 5 of 21

1 Mins read

On the back of a thrilling Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, Max Verstappen was the biggest gainer in the Drivers’ Championship standings, with his maiden Formula 1 race victory in his debut with the Red Bull Racing squad following a move across from Scuderia Toro Rosso moving him up to sixth.

Kimi Raikkonen also gained a position in the championship, with the Scuderia Ferrari driver moving ahead of Lewis Hamilton following the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS driver’s first lap crash with team-mate Nico Rosberg, who remains comfortably on top of the standings despite seeing his seven-race winning streak come to an end in the turn four gravel trap.

Mercedes are still sitting pretty on top of the Constructor’s championship, with Ferrari still their closest challenges, although Red Bull Racing’s first victory since the Belgian Grand Prix of 2014, coupled with Daniel Ricciardo’s fourth place finish, has moved them slightly closer to the Italian outfit.
