McLaren-Honda driver Fernando Alonso took the chance to visit the 2016 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix this weekend ahead of preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was an official guest of Honda at Mugello this weekend and the former Formula 1 champion admitted that he was impressed with the atmosphere at the race track as the local fans cheered on Valentino Rossi.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend so far, great atmosphere,” Alonso said on the grid ahead of the race while speaking to MotoGP.com

“A Valentino pole position has been a good boost for the grandstand.”

Alonso has experience of the Mugello track and was blown away with how the MotoGP riders took on the circuit.

“It’s unbelievable, it’s quite impressive,” Alonso said.

“I went into the braking for Turn 1, the bike is moving there at 350kmh. It’s quite impressive.

“They’re heroes for us. It’s very impressive to watch it live. Quite different from television.”
