Tanner Foust has announced his plans to return to the FIA World Rallycross Championship for the 2016 season, where he will make his comeback at Lydden Hill in Kent for the World RX of Great Britain.

The Red Bull Global Rallycross double champion will make two appearances during the 2016 World RX season, beginning with an entry for the World RX of Great Britain where he will join Volkswagen RX Sweden drivers Johan Kristoffersson and Anton Marklund in a third VW Polo Supercar. With two previous wins at the Kent circuit, the American driver will be well placed to challenge the regular World RX drivers and also take on his former GRC rival Ken Block.

With victories in 2012 and 2013, Foust will be looking to settle quickly in the Volkswagen Polo Supercar which is a different beast compared to his Andretti Autosport Volkswagen Beetle Supercar which he will drive for the full season in its iconic Rockstar colours across the pond in 2016. The American driver will then make a second appearance in World RX in the penultimate round at the Estering circuit in Germany.

Foust explained his happiness at getting the chance to return to competition at the spiritual home of rallycross, “I’m looking forward to returning to World RX with Rockstar Energy Drink and the Volkswagen RX Sweden team,” said Foust.

“It’s a professional organisation with great race cars. It’s a new team made up of very experienced people. With the speed the Volkswagen Polo RXs have shown so far this season I’m excited to get my hands on one. I feel very lucky to be able to compete at Lydden Hill again this year.

“As the birthplace of rallycross, the track has a lot of history and I jumped at the chance to add the World RX of Great Britain to my competition schedule.”

Volkswagen RX Sweden Team Principal, Michael Schneider is looking forward to having Foust back in the team, “It will be very nice to have Tanner back with us in the Volkswagen Polo RX. He showed very good pace when he drove with us last season. Lydden Hill is somewhere I know he likes and he has won there a couple of times in the past,” he said.

“He fits in with the team very well and it will be interesting to see how he finds all the developments and hard work we have done for this season. It will be great to see him competing against Ken Block, who he has raced against in America, along with Sebastien Loeb and all the other high profile names.”
