The New Era collection has been devised to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the McLaren F1 team’s first race at the Monaco Grand Prix, back in 1966.

Forming a partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL) and Manchester United Football Club, it is a unique opportunity for the New Era brand to establish its name in Formula 1, as it combines with the McLaren F1 team to create an homage to motorsport’s past.

The limited edition heritage pack, which takes its inspiration from a bygone era, with heritage colours, authentic materials and celebrated themes, aims to beautifully highlight McLaren’s synonymous racing achievements across the years.

All caps are made from 100% vintage leather, in honour of the Woking based squad’s founder Bruce McLaren, who used a leather strap to secure the bonnet of an Austin Ulster he was once so lovingly bringing back to life. Denim is also featured on the cap, which is meant to symbolise the overalls the mechanics would wear and the waxed canvas makes reference to the toolkit bags used on circuit. The canvas has also been dyed rocket red, a predominant colour for McLaren during their more successful years.

The headwear collection is a unique piece of memorabilia for any fan of the McLaren F1 team to love and cherish, cleverly depicting a story from the squad’s last 50 years of racing. Paul Gils, VP EMEA confirmed his delight at the partnership.

“New Era is deeply rooted in sports heritage and we pride ourselves on being the absolute leaders in headwear by partnering with some of the most globally renowned leagues and teams around the world.

“As the official cap of Major League Baseball and the National Football League, we’re extremely proud to be partnering with motorsport champions, McLaren to celebrate their 50 years of GP racing.”

Licensing Director Nigel Moss added: “Caps have featured prominently on our drivers’ heads throughout 50 years of Grand Prix racing, we are very excited to partner with New Era Cap who pride themselves on 96 years of sports heritage to develop an authentic, motorsport-inspired line of quality headwear.

“We look forward to launching the initial ‘McLaren by New Era’ collection prior to the Monaco Grand Prix, at which Bruce McLaren made his Formula 1 debut in 1966.”

The headwear collection will be available on McLaren’s website and online at

Watch out for an exclusive competition coming up on which will give readers a chance to win one of the unique caps from the collection!
