Tom Sharp and the IDL Racing team were left somewhat frustrated after evident pace was not rewarded during the Porsche Carrera Cup GB meeting, a support act to the World Endurance Championship event, at Silverstone.
Following an impressive, podium highlighted, weekend at Brands Hatch and having been one of several drivers to take part in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup weekend in 2015, both team and driver were hopeful of a successful time in Northamptonshire.
A seventh place finish from third on the grid in race one, may not sound desperately impressive. In truth Sharp started last having made a last minute decision to switch from wets to slicks and his comeback drive, was one of several that lit up an enthralling race.
A fourth appeared to have slipped away on Sunday, following an intense battle with Team Parker Racing driver Stephen Jelley. On the penultimate tour the battling duo was usurped by Tom Oliphant’s Redline car. However, some of Oliphant’s creative track limits use led to Sharp being promoted to fourth post race.
Reflecting on a difficult weekend, Sharp commented, “Unfortunately it just did not come together for us this time out. I was proud of the comeback drive in race one, whilst we had the pace to challenge for third in race two, but just couldn’t get past Jelley soon enough.”
