Esteban Gutierrez had a disappointing Saturday for the European Grand Prix after struggling with the brakes of his VF-16.

The Haas F1 Team driver has been setting fastest lap times of early teens all weekend. Then he set a fastest lap time of 1:45.349 on Saturday to start the Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit in fifteenth. Ahead of the Sauber F1 of Felipe Nasr.

Putting this behind him, Gutierrez is now focused on the Grand Prix on Sunday and hopes the American-led outfit can advance as much as they can to get the best out of their performance.

“Today hasn’t been a good day for me,” said Gutierrez. “I’ve been struggling a bit with the brakes.

“On the last lap I took a few risks and I made a small mistake. Unfortunately, I didn’t have another chance after that. Overall, I think sometimes you have to take risks and these things happen. In racing you have to try to make the most of every opportunity and, occasionally, it comes out like this.

“Looking ahead to tomorrow, we will try to advance as much as we can and get the best out of our performance. The track will allow for some overtaking so it will be a great race to watch.”
