Louis Deletraz was delighted to claim his second victory of the Formula V8 3.5 season after using a perfect strategy call to jump both Roy Nissany and Egor Orudzhev during Sunday’s second race of the weekend at Paul Ricard.

The Fortec Motorsports driver was running third in the early stages of the race, but made his mandatory pit stop early, which enabled him to make use of some clear air to pump in some quick laps, with the Swiss driver inheriting the lead when the leading duo finally made their own stops.

Deletraz revealed that his tyres were struggling towards the end of the race, with Nissany closing the gap, but the pace he had run in the clean air had enabled him to build up enough of a cushion to take the victory and close the gap in the championship standings to Tom Dillmann.

“That was an amazing race,” said Deletraz, who had finished sixth in race one on Saturday. “Everything went right and the team did an absolutely fantastic job. I don’t think we were able to show our real pace in the last couple of races because we had some small problems. But today was different. We were fast and we never gave up.

“The decision to undercut on the pit stop was a very good one because although I was quicker than Orudzhev in the opening laps, I couldn’t really get past. When I came out of the pits I had a clear track for six or seven laps and that meant I could really push hard and set the fastest lap of the race.

“My tyres were going off a little bit towards the end but everything was fine because the gap I had built up was comfortable. The race was a lot of fun and winning again is really an excellent feeling. This gives me some good momentum and confidence going to the next races.”
