Sebastian Vettel finished inside the top three in both Friday free practice sessions around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and felt reasonably happy with his days work, even though he feels there are improvements still to be made going forward this weekend.

The Scuderia Ferrari driver was third fastest in the opening session on Friday morning behind the two Mercedes AMG PETRONAS drivers, before finishing second only to Lewis Hamilton in the second session, with the team running their upgraded engine for the first time around the Montreal street circuit.

Vettel felt everything new on the car seemed to work well during the practice sessions, but feels more progress could and should be made during Saturday’s running in Canada in order to put in a proper challenge to the Mercedes team up front.

“The car felt ok today, but it was quite nervous, which is normal around this track with all the curbs and the bumps,” said Vettel. “But overall it was a good day, all the things we brought seem to work, even if I am not yet entirely happy.

“But then show me one driver that is entirely happy with the car on Friday…you always have the feeling you can improve.”
