Valtteri Bottas is happy to be returning to Austria this weekend for the ninth round of the 2016 Formula 1 season, a venue that has good memories for the Finnish driver.

Last time out, the Williams Martini Racing driver finished the European Grand Prix in sixth around the Baku Street Circuit, with the Finn managing to briefly run as high as third before his first pit stop. However, he was unable to maintain this position until the end of the Grand Prix, and was forced to settle for sixth.

The 2014 Austrian Grand Prix was where Bottas scored his first podium in his F1 career after finishing the Grand Prix in third for the Grove-based outfit, with the Finn reliving those happy memories every time he returns to the Red Bull Ring.

“Austria is where I got my first podium in Formula One, so it’s always nice to go back,” said Bottas. “I like the landscape and the beautiful countryside that surrounds the track because it’s similar to my home in Finland.

“As a place to visit, I really enjoy it. The track itself is always fun to drive. It has a nice flow to it with some big elevation changes and plenty of high-speed corners. It’s also pretty good for our car, so it should be an interesting weekend.”
