Conwy Council extends support for 2016 Wales Rally GB

1 Mins read

Conwy Council have extended their support deal for the 2016 Wales Rally GB World Rally Championship event.

The Council have been supporters of Rally GB since 2010, making it their seventh year in partnership with the World Rally Championship event alongside the title sponsor Dayinsure.

This means that the rally, held in late October will take place around some of Conwy’s famous attractions. On Sunday morning, the teams and drivers will navigate through the Alwen and Brenig Forest timed sections, as well as the latter half of the rally with the Power StageVolkswagen’s Sebastien Ogier won last year’s Rally GB.

Ben Taylor, Wales Rally GB Director said “We enjoy huge support throughout the year from Conwy Council,”

“As the official ‘Host County’ the area hosts the spectacular Start and Finish ceremonies, as well as competitive action in the forests on Sunday morning, bringing thousands of visitors to the region.

“But the amazing backing that Conwy offers from the councillors, the executive and the fantastic events team, makes a vital contribution to the success of the whole event.”

Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing & Leisure, Councillor Graham Rees added “It has been a pleasure working with Wales Rally GB organisers over the last few years. Events are very important to us and we’re looking forward to welcoming another major championship to the area.

“For every £1 we spend on events, we have a return on investment of £32 making them crucial to our economy in supporting our many small businesses, specifically those within the tourism industry which remains our economic driver.”
