For the third time in 2016, Esteban Gutierrez finished just outside the points in eleventh, with the Haas F1 Team driver missing out on tenth by just 0.621 seconds at the chequered flag at the Red Bull Ring.

The Mexican driver made a poor getaway to drop down the order, but fought back well, only to be denied the final point by the Manor of Pascal Wehrlein, who himself finished on the tail of the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.

Gutierrez admitted to having to switch strategy after his poor start, but could only recover to where he started on the grid, which left the Mexican disappointed at the end of the day.

“It was a very difficult race from the start,” said Gutierrez. “Going on anti-stall, we lost a lot of ground. After that I was recovering, trying to do my best to fight all the way up to the front on a different strategy from what we had planned.

“In the end, the pace was pretty good. We were regaining positions and getting back to being in good shape, but we were struggling with grip. We ended up P11, very close to scoring points.

“It’s not great, but at least we fought all the way with what we had. I’ll keep pushing and focusing on the next race.”
