Esteban Gutierrez will start the German Grand Prix from eleventh on the grid, but saw his first chance of a top ten start disappear when he saw other drivers jump ahead of him during Q2 as the chequered flag fell, having been as high as eighth.

The Haas F1 Team driver felt it was an interesting session at the Hockenheimring on Saturday, and admitted his pride at how the team worked to get a competitive car on track for the qualifying session, and is eager to repay them by getting into Q3 next time out, and by securing his first points finish of the season on Sunday.

“It was an interesting qualifying,” revealed Gutierrez. “I was pushing all the way as I really wanted to get into Q3. I took all the available risks that I could and I really enjoyed it out there.

“I’m happy the way we worked as a team. It proves that from Friday to Saturday we are making good progress and this gives me a lot of confidence. I’m really proud of the whole team. P11 is a good place to start and it leaves me hungry to keep pushing for the next one to try to get into Q3.

“Tomorrow I’m going to give it everything from the start and fight all the way with the guys in front to get into the top-10.”
