Nico Hulkenberg is pleased with the pace Sahara Force India achieved on the opening day of practice for the German Grand Prix.
The German finished Free Practice 1 in fifteenth, courtesy of a best time of 1:18.591 which put him only 0.037 seconds ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez.
For Free Practice 2, Hulkenberg jumped up the grid to finish the session in seventh, with a time of 1:16.781 placing him ahead of the McLaren-Honda of Jenson Button.
Hulkenberg is happy with the positive start at the Hockenheimring and he is now looking forward to the Silverstone-based outfit building on this performance for the race on Sunday.
“I am pretty happy with today and it was a fairly straightforward start to the weekend,” said Hulkenberg. “We ran all morning on the medium compound, which looks like a good tyre, and we worked with the soft and supersoft this afternoon.
“The pace looks alright and I felt pretty comfortable in the car, especially in the second session as the track improved. There’s obviously still quite a bit of work to get where we want to be, but overall it’s a positive start and I am looking forward to building on it.”
