Sahara Force India development driver Nikita Mazepin called the Silverstone test as the “two of the biggest days of my life”, after the young Russian driver completed 69 laps at the wheel of the VJM09 on Wednesday, setting the fourth fastest lap with a 1:31.561.

Mazepin impressed on the second and final day of in-season testing at the home British motorsport, with the FIA European Formula 3 driver wanting to help the British team in development work.

“My main objective was to help the team out as much as possible and I’m pleased with how things went,” said Mazepin.  “We managed to test a lot of items and we also managed to do a few performance runs, which went very well. I kept working and chipping away at the laptime, finding places where I could improve every time I went out”.

The young Russian has gained valuable experience in the simulator with Force India and was pleased to get the chance to drive for the team and gather data.

“We did a lot of work on our set-up, on aero items and I improved as a driver, so it’s positives all around,” said Mazepin.  “This experience will help me in my position as development driver, as we continue to work on correlation for our simulator programme. It has been an incredibly enjoyable experience and I can’t wait to have another opportunity to jump in the car.”

The Silverstone test gives the team an opportunity to test new components and work on different set-ups.

Force India have performed outstanding this season, with Sergio Perez winning two podiums already and Nico Hulkenberg has consistently scored points.
