Sergey Sirotkin believes participating in the Formula 1 2016 in-season testing at Silverstone was a great opportunity and experience for the young Russian driver.
The GP2 Series driver drove the RS16 for Renault Sport Formula 1 team on the opening day of testing after the British Grand Prix, with teams allocating two of its four days of in-season testing to young drivers.
Sirotkin finished the session in tenth behind the Manor Racing of Rio Haryanto, with a fastest lap time of 1:36.575, and completed a total of 48 laps for the Enstone-based outfit.
After completing his run in the RS16, Sirotkin was happy with his progress made, believing he had a good run in the different conditions Silverstone threw at him.
“It’s always exciting when you get time in a Formula 1 car!” said Sirotkin. “Today was about following procedures and working towards the development of the car.
“We weren’t looking at pure performance runs, it was more trying to be able to measure and assess the new parts we have for the car. I had some good time in the car both in wet and dry conditions. I went through the range of Pirelli’s tyres, so slicks, intermediates and full wets.
“Once more it was a great opportunity and experience for me. Unfortunately the weather was out of our control today. I like to drive in the rain, but it’s also nice to drive in the dry sometimes too!”
This was Sirotkin’s second F1 outing for Renault after debuting during Free Practice at the Russian Grand Prix. Jolyon Palmer will take over from Sirotkin in the final day of testing at Silverstone for Renault.
