Sergio Perez believes Sahara Force India have a lot of potential after the opening day of practice for the German Grand Prix.

The Mexican finished Free Practice 1 in sixteenth with a fastest lap time of 1:17.628, ahead of the Haas F1 of Charles Leclerc. In Free Practice 2, Perez improved massively and managed to climb up to ninth, a best effort of 1:17.148 putting him ahead of the McLaren-Honda of Fernando Alonso.

Force India spent the morning at the Hockenheimring running the Medium compound as both of their drivers have brought along three sets of the compound. The afternoon was then spent running the Soft and Supersoft compound.

Perez believes these runs have allowed them to get a lot of data about each of the compounds: “I think we were the only team to run the medium compound today alongside the soft and supersoft, which allowed us to get a lot of data about each of the three different tyres.

“The mediums are performing quite well, which is a bit of a welcome surprise. It’s still early, but I think the weekend has a lot of potential and we’re in a good position to make the most of it. There are still some areas to improve when it comes to car balance, but we should be able to sort it overnight after looking at the data we collected.”
