Valtteri Bottas: “Today was a disappointing day”

It was a day to forget for Valtteri Bottas and his Williams Martini Racing after the Finnish driver fell out of points scoring position at Silverstone with an early spin before not having the pace in either wet or dry conditions.

Having started the race from sixth, Bottas spun at the Vale corner after switching to the Intermediate tyre, losing a handful of positions, and then dropped further down the order as the race progressed, finishing well adrift of the McLaren of Fernando Alonso.

Bottas will look into what went wrong at Silverstone with a day inside the team’s simulator before getting back on track later this weekend in the post-race test at the same circuit.

“Today was a disappointing day,” said Bottas. “I spun in the wet and lost position. The main problem going from the wet tyre to the dry tyre was not getting enough heat into them to make them work.

“In the slick stints the pace was poor. As a team, it’s important we analyse what happened today. For myself as a driver I need to learn from my mistakes too.

“I’ll be having a day in the simulator tomorrow running through the test programme for this week.”
