Beating Ferrari to second would be ‘an unbelievable result’ for Red Bull – Horner

Christian Horner has admitted that the form Red Bull Racing have shown in 2016 has been above expectations, and feels the team are now in a great position to battle and beat Scuderia Ferrari in the battle for second place in the constructors’ championship behind Mercedes.

After a disappointing 2015 where the team struggled even to make the podium, Red Bull have shown stronger pace this year, and took victory at the Spanish Grand Prix with Max Verstappen, while the Dutchman and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo have both finished on the podium a number of times.

Horner admits that the upturn in form has had a positive effect on the morale within the Red Bull camp, and believes the team will do everything within their power to take the fight to Ferrari and secure second place in the standings.

“We could never have imagined in a million years what we have achieved in the first half of the year, it’s been very positive,” said Horner to Autosport.

“It’s great motivation for everybody to have got back on the right trajectory. You can feel in the factory there’s a real buzz around this.

“Our feeling is we should get stronger in the second half of the year and hopefully we can put up a good fight with Ferrari as we head to the end of the championship.

“If we can build on what we’ve achieved in the first half, and if we could beat Ferrari to second place in the constructors’, that would be an unbelievable result.”
