EKSRX have been the form team of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship, however they have not taken a win since the World RX of Great Britain back in May and both driver and team are looking to end that drought in Canada.
Team Principle and World RX Drivers Championship leader Mattias Ekstrom has taken three wins this year and he has managed to maintain his five point lead in the Drivers Title ahead of rival Petter Solberg, however the former DTM man is now looking for a return to winning ways as he realises the challenge ahead for the second half of the year. Whilst the EKSRX outfit leads the Teams Championship by 32 points from nearest rival Team Peugeot-Hansen, again Ekstrom is well aware of the improving form of the Franco-Swedish squad with both of their drivers having taken podium finishes this year and is looking to extend his advantage in the World RX of Canada.
“Three victories so far is not too bad, but after leaving our home round in Sweden without any trophy or champagne, we are even more motivated to make it four in Canada,” explained Ekstrom, “It’s the first overseas event of the year and I’m really looking forward to coming back to Canada.”
2016 EKSRX driver Topi Heikkinen has seen a return to his front running form during this season in the Audi S1 Quattro Supercar, however the Finn has a good record at the legendary Trois-Rivières circuit and he is looking to add to the silverware has already gained this year:i
“My aim is to make it three in a row and to grab another trophy at the end. It’s possible for sure, because the track suits both me and our Audi S1 EKS RX quattro,” explained Heikkinen, “The long straight is spectacular and the two jumps are really nice after the adjustments have been made in 2015.”
