Ekström and Heikkinen ready for latest World RX Lohéac round

1 Mins read

Team EKS’ Mattias Ekström and Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen are ready for the eighth round of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship in Lohéac, France.

Lohéac, which is a small village in the Brittany region of north-western France hosts the biggest World RX round of the season as nearly 80,000 fans are expected to attend the round.

The Swedish-based team currently lead the Teams’ Standings by over 30 points, ahead of their nearest rivals Team Peugeot Hansen in second and are looking to extend that deficit in France this weekend.

Ekström, who lays second in the Drivers’ Standings, behind Championship Leader Petter Solberg, is looking forward to regaining his championship lead in France this weekend.

The Swede said “In 2015, Lohéac was a fantastic event until my driveshaft broke in very first lap of the final, the atmosphere is amazing and I really like the superfast track.

“This year we hope for that bit of luck you always need to win a World RX event. It’s time to celebrate the next podium finish, but we are also looking for some vital points for the standings.”

While his EKS team-mate Heikkinen sits seventh in the Drivers’ Standings, six points behind Timmy Hansen in sixth place. The Finn added “France is one of my favourite countries, they have very good food and the people are always nice.

“Lohéac is a special track. The gravel is very concrete. It has the characteristics of a proper race track rather than a rallycross circuit. But no worries, that fits perfect for me and my Audi S1 EKS RX quattro.”
