Vijay Mallya hopes Sahara Force India can continue their strong performance into this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

Force India had a successful Belgian Grand Prix as Nico Hulkenberg finished in fourth with team-mate Sergio Perez closely behind in fifth. The whole weekend the Silverstone-based outfit were performing strong. Team principal Mallya believes Force India could have been on the podium if some circumstances played out differently.

“We were strong from the first practice session through to Sunday afternoon thanks to an excellent all-round team performance,” said Mallya.

“We could have been on the podium had some circumstances played out differently, but when you earn 22 points in one race weekend there is no reason to complain at all.”

Mallya is excited for the Italian Grand Prix this weekend as he believes it’s one of the best races of the season. With Monza being a track that rewards top speed and pushes the engine to its limit.

“The Italian Grand Prix is one of the best races of the season,” added Mallya. “It has all the ingredients that make Formula One special.

“We saw a huge turnout of fans in Belgium last week and I’m sure the tifosi will help create a fantastic atmosphere this weekend too. Monza is a track that rewards top speed and pushes the engine to its limit.

“Given our competitive form in Spa, I’m confident we can keep up the momentum this weekend.”
