Manor Racing have announced Rio Haryanto will remain with the team after accepting a Reserve Driver role.
The Banbury based squad confirmed on Wednesday that they had terminated Haryanto’s contract, after he was unable to provide the funding to keep his 2016 Formula 1 season seat.
With both him and his management trying to secure further funding, it has been unsuccessful. Leading to the team terminating his contract and signing Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the season. The Frenchman will step-up to an F1 seat when the second half of the season continues in Belgium later this month.
Haryanto will continue to work with the team in his Reserve Driver role, should either race driver be unable to take part in an event, he will step-up to their position. He will also attend engineering meetings and PR activities as the team wish to continue supporting his racing ambitions.
When it was confirmed Haryanto’s contract was terminated, the Banbury based squad offered him a Reserve Driver role to keep his F1 dream alive. On Thursday the team confirmed Haryanto had accepted their offer. Ocon will partner Pascal Wehrlein for the nine remaining Grand Prix on the calendar.
