Michelin Pilot Sport tyres featured at 2016 Rallye Deutschland

1 Mins read

Michelin will be bringing their Pilot Sport-branded tyres to Round 9 of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship at Rallye Deutschland on 18-21 August 2016.

Rallye Deutschland is one of the WRC calendar’s toughest asphalt rallies due to its varying stage profiles, as well as its unpredictable weather, making it a real challenge for the teams and drivers competing at the event.

Michelin will be providing the WRC teams with its S5 (soft) and H5 (hard) compound versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. While its WRC2 counterparts will have the option of choosing between the Michelin Pilot Sport ‘R S’ and ‘R H2’ tyre compounds at Rallye Deutschland.

Also available for the WRC and WRC2 teams this weekend with tyres is the new Michelin Pilot Sport FW2, which drivers will be able to use in extreme wet conditions.

Manager of Michelin’s WRC Programme Jacques Morelli said “The 2016 Rallye Deutschland proposes three basic stage profiles. Day 1’s stages are predominantly narrow, with some concrete. They can be fast but also dirty in places, with lots of hairpins. The second day chiefly comprises the extremely long Baumholder stage. It is more than 40km in length and, if the conditions are dry, we could see high wear-rates for the hard-compound tyre. The army camp’s tracks are used by tanks and are a mix of asphalt and concrete. They are also lined by sturdy concrete blocks. The slightest error here can spell retirement!”
