Sebastian Vettel believes it was a tricky opening day of practice for the Belgian Grand Prix with hot weather conditions.

The Scuderia Ferrari driver finished the morning session in fifth with a time of 1:49.768, to finish behind the Sahara Force India of Sergio Perez. Vettel only managed to improve his time in the afternoon by 0.745s and finished in fourth, this time ahead of Perez.

The weather conditions at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps were hotter than planned, leading to everyone struggling to make their tyres last as long as they should do. Vettel believes Ferrari need to improve the car as it’s not currently where they want it to be.

“Today it was a very tricky day,” said Vettel.  “It is very hot for Spa, and so it’s very slippery out there. But I think in general, everybody was struggling to make the tyres last and sliding quite a lot. It doesn’t matter which tyre you have, it’s the same for everybody.

“So we need to try and work on that because the temperatures will be like this for the whole weekend. Also, I was struggling a bit with the balance of the car, but this is up to us. We need to improve the car. It is not yet where we want it to be. But I am sure we will be faster.”
